The one album that has eluded me for years! This one I inexplicably missed throughout both my time during the vinyl and cd ages. I offer no rational explanation for ignoring what was without a doubt one of JR's finest releases...ever! At long last I am glad to be able to offer this final piece here on my blog site.

With a big, clean production, and quality L.A. session musicians, Rewind is a great collection of blue-eyed soul and rock. The album's two Motown covers, "Baby I Need Your Loving" and "Tracks of My Tears," are more similar to tributes than attempts to outshine the originals. Other standouts include "Tunesmith" and "do What You Gotta Do." The most interesting track would have to be "Sidewalk Song/27th Street," which is pretty mediocre as a song, but are the bizarre sound clips possibly attacking commercialism? No one really knows.

Along with "Changes" and "Realization," these three stellar albums together make an awesome tripartite of California rock and blue eyed soul.

Produced by Lou Adler, arranged by Jimmy Webb, featuring Joe Osborne on bass, Larry Knechtel on piano, and Hal Blaine on drums, "Rewind" is a solid, tight recording, with excellent production and inventive arrangements provided by songwriter Jim Webb.

I am grateful to my good friend whiteray for helping me add the final piece to the puzzle.
